Hehirs transport, Rand NSW, recently completed the third stage of their storage facility. This involved an additional 2 x 1400 tonne silos, bring the total capacity to 9,800 tonnes (7 x 1400 tonne silos). The storage is all fully sealed suitable for either phosphine fumigation or controlled atmosphere (CO
2 or N
2) insect control, and also aerated, suitable for canola storage or maintaining grain at slightly higher than normal delivery moisture levels.
Further to the additional storage, improvements have been made to the in-feed system which allows for rapid truck unloading (two trucks simultaneously) whilst still maintaining a simple, low cost circular auger system for silo filling.
Despite the severe drought, all silos were used for storage for the company’s clients, demonstrating the value of quality storage at times when grain commodities are scarce and expensive.
